The Fate of Hell’s Preachers
It is strangely ironic that those who try to make a strong case that the Bible teaches the majority of mankind is doomed to eternal damnation in a fiery place called Hell are the very people most qualified, according to Jesus’ words, to go there. If Gehenna, translated Hell, and found most often in Jesus’ mouth in the New Testament, is a place of everlasting punishment, it is those who claimed to know Him and to do His works who are the prime candidates to go there, not street sinners and unbelievers. So then, the proud, the self-righteous, the unmerciful, the condemner and judger of others, the unforgiving, the respecter of persons, the one who supposedly lifts high God’s wrath, His holiness and justice at the expense of His love, mercy, forgiveness, patience and wisdom…yes…it is the modern Christian Pharisee, the hypocrite, the self-righteous, judgmental and unforgiving heart that is most likely to hear,
“Depart from Me, I knew you!”
If God were to judge these defenders of Hell by their very own words, they would be doomed for all eternity. Jesus said,
“For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.” Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?” Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains. (John 9:39-41) Fortunately for all of us, His mercy endures forever and His wrath comes to an end, or else the Church would be Hell.
